At TripFit we love wine almost as much as we love fitness adventures. Melbourne is blessed with one of the best wine regions in Australia and with summer just a couple of days away, we wanted to share a list of our favourite Yarra Valley wineries.

#1 Medhurst Wines: Set in Gruyere, right in the centre of the valley, the quality of the experience at Medhurst is equalled only by the wine. Richard the sommelier oozes passion and knowledge making the wine tasting experience at Medhurst one of the best in the area.  The wines have won a series of awards over the last couple of years with the Chardonnay and the YRB (red blend) being the pick of the bunch.

#2 Oakridge: The views at Oakridge are some of the finest in the Yarra Valley and the wines aren’t too far behind. We love the 2015 ‘864’ Chardonnay and, for something different, the Late Harvest Pinot Gris: a semi-sweet wine that goes down well with a couple of episodes of your favourite Netflix show.

#3 Yering Station: Home of Victoria’s first vineyard, planted way back in 1838 (only three years after Melbourne was founded by white settlers), Yering Station is steeped in history. Set in a beautiful estate and with stunning heritage buildings, Yering also puts out some fantastic wines – the 2015 Reserve Pinot Noir is our favourite.

#4 Domaine Chandon: Not exactly an original choice, but it’s hard to go past a visit to DC if you’re passing through the Yarra Valley. As Victoria’s premier producer of sparkling wine (just don’t say the ‘C’ word), the experience at Domaine Chandon is one of luxury and elegance and is always a highlight of the day for our customers.

#5 Napoleone Brewery and Ciderhouse: It’s not technically a winery but Napoleone is not to be missed, especially if you or someone else in your group isn’t into grape based drinks. These guys have a great selection of beers and ciders, all of which go down very well towards the end of a hot day. Make this your last stop.

TripFit runs active day tours to the Yarra Valley from Thursday to Sunday each week, subject to availability. We do it a bit differently from other tour companies, with a morning of hiking and biking following by an afternoon of eating and drinking. Click here for more information or to book now!
